Hello listers
Following is the first Canadian record I have of my GG Grandfather -- Family oral history includes mention of "French breed" .
I do not know if Peter came directly to Canada or via the USA when he left France. I do know that his children were born in Ontario -- NOT France as indicated by the following census, so it not nessecarily a fact that Peter, himself, was born in France.
1851 Census: Scugog Township, Ontario Co., ON
FHL Film #0349230, page 9, lines 41-45;
Peter DELLIN, farmer, M, M, 80, France, Catholic;dwelling: Shanty, 1 storey, 1 family
Lavina DELLIN, F, M, 54, France, Catholic
Joseph DELLIN, M, -, 14, France, Catholic; Deaf and Dumb
Lavina DELLIN, F, -, 13, France, Catholic, School
Margaret DELLIN, F, -, 2, France, Catholic
Neighbours: Jacob Burnham, Joseph Reader, William Willson and Isac Rodman, John Sadler, William Demill

1851 Agricultural Census: line 14:
Peter Dillon, Con 5, lot 24, 20 acres: 4 cult, 6 in crops, 6 pasture, 11 wild.

Wheat 2 acres/30 bushels; Peas 4/60; Oats 6/180; B.wheat 1 ½ /20; Indian Corn ½ /4; Bean ½ /?; Hay 10 ba?; Maple syrup 20 lbs; 1 milk cow; 1 calf or heifer; 2 pigs; Butter 50 lbs; Pork - cwt - 150 lbs.
The following information was noted by the 1851 Census enumerator, Ezrd Gamble, at the end of his census records: "The township of Scugog is surrounded by Scugog Lake and in the same County as Reach and Port Perry. The township is 2 to 4 miles in width and about 12 miles in length. There is one main road the whole length of the township and a few cross roads. The soil is well adapted to agriculture but poorly cultivated generally. It is generally well watered by springs and small streams. The wild land is worth form $3 to $5 per acre and the improved land is worth 2 to 3 pounds per acre. It is thinly inhabited. Mostly by new beginners. There is one schoolhouse occupied by the winter?/whites? for school and place of worship by the Methodist EP."

1854 Reach Township Tax Collector's Roll
Dillon, Peter, householder, Lot 24, Concession 5, 25 acres

subsequent records confirm that a daughter, Rosann was born between Bet. 1826 - 1831-- the year dependent on accuracy of information from her three marriages:
