Looking for information on the Harkins, Duffy, McFadyen, & Murphy families of Greenock, Scotland and Donegal, Ireland.

According to the Scottish Records Office, Cornelius (Neal/Neil) HARKINS (b.abt. 1837, Ireland) married MARY DUFFY (b. 1840, Scotland) on 8 Feb. 1858 in Middle or New Parish, Greenock, Scotland They both lived in Greenock (Low Shaw Street) in the 1850s.

Neil's parents were HUGH HARKINS (abt 1810-1858, b. Ireland) and ROSE McFADYN (abt 1810-1865. b. Ireland). There was at least one child, SUSAN HARKINS (of Cransford, Ire.). Neil Harkins is thought to have immigrated from county Donegal (areas of Milford or Cransford) to Greenock, Scotland.

MARY DUFFY'S parents were JOHN DUFFY (abt. 1810-1865, b. Ireland) and JANE MURPHY (abt. 1810-1870, b. Ireland). There was at least one other child, Ellen.

Neil & Mary had two children born in Scotland, ROSE b: Feb. 6, 1858 and JOHN b: April 26, 1859. Both children apparently died prior to 1860.

Neil and Mary Harkins immigrated to Philadelphia between 1859 and 1862. Here they had 12 more children: Hugh, John, James, Mame, Neil, Michael, Catherine, Hannah, Elle, Katheryn, Rose, and Margaret.

While visiting Scotland and Ireland in 1904, Neil & Mary's daughter Margaret (b.1883 Phila.) made journal entires referring to the following people:

Greenock: Aunt Ellen, cousins Jean & John Ward, cousin Nellie Leak, cousin John Brennen and his son John. Also mentioned were family friends Maggie & Ellen Dining, Rose McKenzie, Mr. & Mrs James Riley.

Cransford - Donegal, Ireland: Aunt Susan, cousin Sarah McGinley; family friends Barney McCue, Mr. & Mrs. MeGarvey, Ms. Gallagher.

Please note: "Family friends" may have been relatives, but this is not confirmed.
