Civil War Veteran Dies At Home Here
William B. VANDIVORT, 93, one of the thinning ranks of Civil War veterans, died Christmas morning at his home at 1320 Tenth Street after an extended illness.
VANDIVORT enlisted in Company K. 36th Ohio Infantry in 1861, when he was 18 years old. He served three years, receiving his honorable discharge on September 14, 1864. On October 4, 1864, he re-enlisted in Company A. 38th Ohio Infantry, and served until July, 1865.
VANDIVORT was a native of Pennsylvania. He had lived in California for sixteen years and in Modesto for the past year. He was the father of Mrs. Mary B. CLINKENBEARD of Modesto, Russell VANDIVORT of Missouri. Mrs. C. V. SMITH of Arizona, Mrs. Omar SEVLE of Los Angeles and Mrs. E. J. RODEKOHR of Missouri. He also leaves a sister in Misosuri.
