WHAT A REUNION-Eighty-six descendants of Sarah and Peter Ackerman attended a family reunion recently in the Great Kills Community Center. They came from many points in the metropolitan area and those who coundn't be there in person sent greetings from California, Florida, Georgia and Oregon.
The Ackermans settled in Great Kills more than 100 years ago. None of their 13 children is living but many of the children and grandchildren live on the island.
In tribute to the origianl Ackermans, flowers were placed in the Great Kills Moravian Church on the day of the reunion.
The party also marked some "Goodbyes" for Mr. and Mrs. William (Viola) Nelson, who have gone to live in Portland, Ore., with their son-in-law and daughter, the Rev. and Mrs. Robert Armstrong.
