My husband's grandfather was George Oates who married Agnes Jane Carr in 1889. George was a Coal Miner Hewer born in 1866, and he had a brother Thomas born in 1870. George's parents were Benjamin Oates born 1814, and Sarah Ann Oates (nee Hall). Benjamin Oates died in 1874 and Sarah remarried James English from Bolington in Cheshire. Benjamin was also working in the mines.

The family lived at 7 Rockingham Road, Swinton in 1901 (shown in the 1901 census), and previously at 22 Rockingham Road.

I would like any information regarding any of the above, but would like to find out who Benjamin Oates parents were. As Benjamin was born in c1814 this was before registration and so may be in the parish registers. The family parish seems to be St. Margarets in Swinton. Any information please contact me.
