Both the IGI and Rootsweb WorldConnect state that Thomas Butman, born 13 June 1774, was the husband of Mehitable Twiss, Mehitable Roundy, Lucy Twiss and Alice Newhall. The question is which of these woman did he marry?
From Vasselborough ME Monthly Meeting records, quoted in NEHGR 69:82:
"Thomas Butman, b. Beverly, [Mass.], 13 6 mo., 1774
Alice Butman (his wife), b. Lynn, [Mass.], 15 2 mo., 1772"
From the published vital records of Lynn MA, quoting Salem MA Monthly Meeting records:
" Thomas [Butman], cordwainer, s. Richard, of Beverly, deceased, and Mara, and Alice Newhall, d. Abijah and Abigail, deceased, 20: 7m: 1796."
According to Weare NH Monthly Meeting records, Alice survived her husband, married a Nathan Chase, and died in 1854.
I do not know the date of his death, but it must have occurred between 1806, when his youngest child, Alice, was born, and 1812, when he was described as being "late of Vasselborough" in a Hillsborough County NH probate instrument of guardianship for his children.
