Is it possible to get an idea of Where in the county Alex lived? What does the "8th Company" signify?

I have an Alexander Mathewson reportedly born in NC around this time who moved to Indiana, but I have not been able to locate him prior to that, or determine any more about him. There is one note that he married Nancy, a Cherokee.

If anyone has any further info it would be greatly appreciated.
