I am still trying to find my Grant family line. Here are some clues that I have recently uncovered.

1)Peter Grant (1798-1850) who lived on W ½ of Lot 16 1st Concession of Charlottenburgh left in his will his lot on the E ½ of Lot 17 in the 8th Concession of Charlottenburgh to his wife Ellen Wright (daughter of John Wright). I have the abstract for Lot 17, 8th Conc. The lot was originally deeded from the Crown to John and Allen Grant. Allen sold the W ½ to John Cameron. John sold the E ½ to Peter Grant (this would be Peter [1798-1850 my ancestor]).
2)I have confirmed that Peter’s (1798-1850) mother is Flora, the older sister of Peter the shoemaker (through Peter the shoemaker's will). Her tombstone is in Salem United Church in Summerstown (Alex Fraser’s “Salem United Church Gravestone Inscriptions Summerstown, Ontario”) reads: Sacred to the memory of Flora Grant daughter of Peter Grant Sr. wife of John Grant born in Glenmorrison North Britain who departed this life Dec 10 1827 aged 46 years. This stone is erected by their beloved sons Alex, Peter and Duncan. Next to Flora is another tombstone which reads: Scared to the memory of Margaret Grant born in Montreal wife of John Grant daughter of John Grant Aug 18, 1806 aged 59 years also Nelly Grant who departed the life Dec 20 1828 52 years. This stone is erected by their beloved sons Peter, John and James. I think that Margaret is possibly another wife of the same John. According to a story on the UELAC website in 2004, Mabel MacLean told a story where she dedicated a new tombstone to her ancestor (John Cameron) in the Salem United Church. http://www.uelac.org/Loyalist-Projects/JCameronGrave.php In the story, Mabel mentions the other UEL soldiers buried in the Salem United Church cemetery on the website and a John Grant is on the list. Alex Fraser doesn’t mention John in his book (perhaps the tombstone had disintegrated).
3)Looking at the history of the "Descendants of Angus Grant," I see that he has a son Big John (the robber) Grant. Big John has a son Allen by his wife Mary McIntyre. Big John also has a son John where there are no descendents listed (possibly my John).
4)Peter Grant, the shoemaker’s will states that he had no children. When the will was probated, they had to locate all the relatives that had a claim. The will lists many family members and their relationship to Peter the shoemaker (in Kirktown, Lancaster). Flora Grant’s tombstone states that her father is Peter, Sr. that would make Peter the shoemaker’s father Peter Sr. too. Do we think these are these the UEL soldiers mentioned in so many lists?

My ancestors are Old Kirk or Presbyterians.

This is the best connection that I have found for my John Grant to date. Does anyone have an opinion? I would be thankful for any help I can get.

Sincerely,
Barbara Gressel
