Solomon and Moses Davidson-An Apparent Error on RootsWeb

Classification: Query
Surnames: Davidson, Albright, Philips, Phillips
I believe that the Solomon Davidson who was on the 1860 Sabine Co., TX census (shown as age 48....but the reliabilty of these ages is not very good....and shown with a son named David), and the Moses Davidson who was on the 1860 Franklin Co., VA census (had been shown with a son named David on the earlier 1850 Pittsylvania Co., VA census), were the "true" children of David and Mary Maza (Philips) Davidson of Charles City Co., VA (and later of Halifax Co., VA). I do NOT BELIEVE that the Solomon Davidson and the Moses V. Davidson, who were both in Habersham Co., GA on the 1850 census (with Moses V. Davidson (only) going to Benton Co., Arkansas later), were the children of David and Maza.

Note: There are some charts/"family trees" in the Davidson-Davison Family Resource database that show this APPARENTLY incorrect "connection" between the Solomon and Moses Davidson in GA and David and Mary Maza (Philips) Davidson in VA.

Note: The 1840 Pittsylvania Co., VA census showed that Moses had been born between 1810 and 1820. The 1850 census in Pittsylvania, however, showed that Moses had been born about 1809. The 1860 census in Franklin Co., VA showed that Moses had been born about 1799. I believe this last date was "off" by at least 10 years, and it should have also been about 1809 or earlier. In truth, it may have been closer to 1811 (which would be in agreement with the 1840 census mentioned above), based on the information in the pension applications of David and Mary Maza (Philips) Davidson.

Neither Solomon Davidson nor Moses V. Davidson in GA are shown to have been born in VA (the Solomon Davidson in GA was supposedly born in GA, and this Moses V. Davidson in GA was supposedly born in either GA or SC, depending on which census you want to believe). In addition, Moses V. Davidson is consistently shown as having been born about 1814, and the son of David and Maza was born about 1811.

As shown by the censuses mentioned above, the Moses Davidson in Pittsylvania Co., VA moved to Franklin Co., VA by 1860, and it appears that he died there. I don't know if there are any living male Davidsons from his line who could take the DNA test, These test results could/would be compared to the results for the DNA donors in "Family 10" on the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA website. I believe that "Family 10" is the "correct family" for the David Davidson from Charles City Co., VA who married Mary Maza Philips. We are also looking for any living male Davidson descendants of the Solomon Davidson who was in Sabine Co., TX by 1860.

As a "side note," there was a William Madison Davidson who was also in Sabine Co., TX in 1860. He was the apparent son of Billy Squire Davidson, and Billy was the apparent son of a William Davidson and his wife Nancy Albright who were in Limestone Co., AL. There are some clues that suggest that this last-mentioned William Davidson MIGHT have also been a part of "Family 10" (which traces back to a David and/or William Davidson, who both died in James City Co., VA in 1687). I would love to see a living male Davidson from the family of this William Davidson join the DNA test.

Note: There was an older AND a younger William Davidson in Limestone Co., AL in the early-mid-1800s, and both are said to have been married to women named Nancy Albright. The younger William Davidson is shown to have been born in VA about 1789, and the older William Davidson is shown to have been born in NC (in either about 1775, per the 1850 Limestone census, or in the 1770-1780 timeframe, per the 1830 and 1840 Limestone censuses....so his true age depends on which census you want to believe, I guess). By the 1850 Limestone census, the older William Davidson was married to a later/different wife (i.e., his wife was no longer Nancy Albright).
