Wondering if any of you have info about a Peter Hilburn who is in Newberry County, NC in late 1700's. I found him mentioned in a George Eigelberger's Will in Mar 1796....
WILL OF GEORGE EICHELBERGER- (transcribed from actual copy of will)... " In the Name of God Amen, I George Eigelberger (original spelling) of Newberry County, in the State of South Carolina being very sick in body, but of perfect mind and memory, ........ "Thirdly, I give & bequeath to my son George Eigelberger, a tract of 200 acres of land, more or less, joining John Dominick, & Peter Hilburn, & his heirs forever."
Since I'd never seen mention of a Peter Hilburn in Newberry, I googled the name and discovered this on Family Search: a Peter Hilburn, was buried in St. James, Jamaica on June 19, 1796. Source: "Caribbean, Deaths and Burials, 1790-1906," index, FamilySearch (
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XLP3-J6N : accessed 29 Jun 2013), Peter Hilburn, 19 Jun 1796; citing reference item 3 p330, FHL microfilm 1224328.
Could totally be a coincident but I've been researching Loyalist Hilburns (a William and a Hollum) who fled GA at end of the Revolution & many of the Loyalists did move to Bahamas, Jamaica & other West Indies islands, and of course, Canada & England. I know that William Sr. and Jr. if Newberry did file Loyalist claims with England acc. to Peter Wilson Coldham's book: American Migrations, 1765–1799: The Lives, Times, and Families of Colonial Americans Who Remained Loyal to the British Crown before, during and after the Revolutionary War, as Related in Their Own Words and through Their Correspondence.
Does anyone have info on Peter Hilburn and on Loyalist Hilburns? Thanks.
