Classification: Query
Surnames: Hilbun/Hilburn, Holloman, Murray
We recently discovered two other Hilburns/Hilbuns in Burke County, Ga in the late 1700's. We already knew about Holiman Hilburn and Frederick Hilburn due to land records. There was a William and a James Hilburn listed on land records that we found on the Georgia Virtual Vault. They now have the Headrights and Bounty grants of Burke County online and one can view the old land records. Holiman Hilburn received a land grant on Oct. 6, 1788; a Harmon Holiman and Timothy Murray are listed as chain carriers. In Aug. 1788, Frederick Hilburn is a chain carrier on a James Hogg land grant. In March 1789, a William Hilburn and Rubin Thompson were chain carriers on John Thompson's land grant. In 1790, a James "Hilbourn" and Rubin Thompson were chain carriers on Stephen Murray's land record. Frederick Hilburn's land record was in 1803 and the chain carriers were Daniel Thompson and John Royal, Jr.

I've spent a lot of time researching these names and most of them/or their families were in Duplin/Sampson Co., NC prior to Burke, GA. Some of them had been in Bertie/Edgecombe, NC prior to Duplin. The Murrays and Thompsons are connected to the Kimballs/Kimbrells. And we know that at least two Hilburns married Kimballs in the early 1800's. Does anyone have more info on these families are their connections to the Hilbuns? Does anyone know who William and James Hilburn were? We're guessing they may've been brothers of Frederick?
