Would a WWI volunteer be in draft cards?

Surnames: Donovan, Donavan
I was told that a relative, John Joseph Donovan (sometimes spelled Donavan) volunteered for WWI when he was in his 50s. If he volunteered, would there be a record of him in the draft cards? Or somewhere else? He volunteered, but I don't know if he actually served. Here is his information:
