My husband's ancestry, supposedly, traces back to William Strickland (b. 1618, d. 1670, buried in Frant, Sussex, England, known to have been an ironmonger) and his wife Elizabeth Cripse (b. 1626). William and Elizabeth purchased in 1657 the 100 acre property named Lightlands in Frant, Sussex, England. Lightlands was owned by the family until some time after 1794.
My supposedly is due to the fact that my evidence for connection to William and Elizabeth is not rock solid. I do not have a document from the immigrant ancestor naming family back in England, nor have I found a will for John Strickland of East Grinstead listing the immigrant ancestor and stating that he was in America. My evidence linking the immigrant ancestor to John of East Grinstead instead comes from Mr. Perry Streeter's published research about his immigrant ancestor Thomas Streeter. The rest of the ancestry has been confirmed by wills from the five generations that owned Lightland, IGI, and parish baptismal records.
Would love to find other researchers following this line to compare notes.
