If I am understanding you right, you are saying your tree is on Ancestry and in Family Tree Maker, and you are wondering if you can download it to Legacy or if you can transfer from Family Tree Maker to Legacy.

If that is understood correctly, then the answer is you can do both/either one. Ancestry tree will download as a GEDCOM to your computer and from there you import it into Legacy. You will not get the document images from Ancestry. Those will have to be downloaded separately and then linked into your database where you want them.

The same for FTM. Export as a GEDCOM and import into Legacy. The document images linked in FTM sources will be in the GEDCOM and since the images are on the computer, they will show up in Legacy, attached to your sources. If you want them attached to events too, you will have to do that part yourself. BUT, at least they are attached to your sources. Better than nothing.

Legacy will not read an FTM file directly, nor can it download from Ancestry in the full FTM file. GEDCOM only.

Repeating:

If using the GEDCOM from Ancestry down to your PC, you will lose the image links to your sources when importing to Legacy.

If you export a GEDCOM from FTM, then it will have the source image links still attached and when importing to Legacy, they will show up on your sources there too.

I use Legacy and have FTM and have done this. I uploaded my Legacy file several years ago, and over time attached the records & whatnots, and about 3 years ago bought FTM 2012 and downloaded the tree straight into FTM 2012. Had all my document images downloaded with it. All looked good. I then exported a GEDCOM and imported that GEDCOM into Legacy, and all my documents images were still attached to my sources (because the images were all now on my PC).

To move Legacy to another computer, you will need to back up both Legacy database & media files and put them on the new computer & then 'restore' the Legacy file. (not import as GEDCOM nor a Legacy file. "Restore" the backup. You will not lose anything this way.)

OR, just copy your Legacy database itself and the folder you have the images in and paste to the new computer (in the same directories) and then just open the Legacy file. I've done this both ways, they both work.

Same for Rootsmagic if you ever use it.

Oh, and the reverse works too. Your Legacy file and media on your computer, can be exported as a GEDCOM and imported to FTM and the linked images in your sources, will remain linked when imported to FTM. (same for Rootsmagic).

Note. The GEDCOM will retain the 'links'. NOT the images themselves. And only will retain the links if and or while the images are on the same computer. In using a GEDCOM, you have to manually copy/move the images to a new computer and place in the same directory and your software will (should) find them, automatically relink and images show up. If not, then the software does have the "media gather" thing, where you can show the software where the folder is and re-link one of the images. From there, the software is supposed to be able to then figure out and restore the rest of the links. (I have not tried/tested this part, but I did read about it. This is my understanding of it.)

Hope this is clear enough.
