Samuel Oscar Berry was born in 1839 in Clay County, Missouri and his brother Thomas F. Berry was b.c.1843 in Missouri.

Their mother died when they were young (abt 1845) and his father (name unknown) sent them to Shakertown, Mercer County, Kentucky to live with Rev. James Rankin, a Shaker.

Samuel O. Berry was in the Civil War from KY and was later imprisoned for war crimes and sent to Albany Prison in New York, where he died in 1871. He had married and had a child which he had never seen before he died. Don't know his wife's or child's name or where they lived.

His brother Dr. Thomas F. Berry lived in Pleasureville, Henry County, Kentucky in 1880 and later in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. He married a woman by the name of Josephine who was born about 1847 in KY. He died between 1900 and 1910, probably in Louisville. Josephine died about 1933 in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she went to live with daughter Mary V. and her husband John C. Acheson, a college president. In 1910, she and her daughter and son in law lived in Boyle Co, KY, where John C. Acheson was a college president.

Thomas F. and Josephine Berry's children were: Mary V. Berry b.c. 1873 Missouri-d.after 1930 St. Paul, Minn.?; Oscar J. Berry b.c.1877 KY; Ira W. Berry b.c.1880 KY.
