Help! Need some opinions! GEDmatch - parents and father-in-law

I uploaded my parents and my husband's father's dna files to gedmatch over a week ago. They are double-starred now, so I went ahead ran them through the process that are available at that status. Of course, I ran me against my parents and there's no doubt, they are my parents! Yeah! But I got a real surprize when I ran my father-in-law against mine (just curious if our families were distantly related). I matched him pretty much like I matched both of my parents. So I thought maybe I mixed his file up with one of my parents when I uploaded his. So I check the admixture and none of them are dublicates, so that didn't happen. Now I have a mystery on my hands. Any thoughts out there? Our families are from different counties in MD and, as far as I know, never had any contact with each other until I met my husband 14 years ago. Our lines both go back to colonial VA, but we would have to share a lot of common ancestors, and we don't. I also thought that logging out and back in, then running the match might check. Same results! HELP! And thanks for any imput!
