YOUNGSTOWN - There will be a funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fox Funeral Home for Robert E. Barber, 95, who passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 17, 2013 at his residence .

Bob was born on June 7, 1918, in Youngstown, Ohio (Mahoning County) a son of Robert R. and Margaret E. Evans Barber and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a veteran who served his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
After returning home from the war, Bob worked as a crane operator at Republic Steel for 39 years when he retired.
He was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge.

Bob’s wife, the former Rita Cliff, whom he married on Jan. 11, 1947, died on Nov. 4, 2002, after 55 years of marriage.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his three sons, Robert (Judy) R. Barber of Quinlan, Texas, Phillip (Rhonda) Barber Sr. of Clendenin, W.Va., and Cliff (Cindy) Barber of Elida; a daughter, Karen J. LaVassaur of Youngstown; seven grandchildren, Stephanie A. Barber, Kevin M. Barber, Phillip Barber Jr., John Barber, Jason Barber, Christina LaVassaur, and Robbie Brooks; and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, Bob was also preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen J. Barber; brother, David Barber; and two sisters, Margaret Kirby and Dorothy Sweiz.

The visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market St, Boardman, OH 44512 prior to his service.
