Our family line goes back through William Grancer Embry of Butler County, Ky. From there it continued back to Henry Emberie, of Virginia.
My father was Oliver Emery (Oliver Embry), born in Island, Ky on May 31, 1910. His parents were Van Embry and Ella King Embry. He had two brothers, Jesse and Omer (Oma) Embry; and one sister, Eva Embry.
The four children were abandoned by their mother during a out of town trip by their father. They were eventually sent to the Kentucky State Children's home in Louisville, Ky. There, they were split up and did not find each other for almost fifty years. Oliver was called Emery by so many people, instead of Embry, that he eventually changed his name legally.
Oliver Emery married Kathleen Barker on Dec. 15, 1937, and were still together when he died. Oliver Emery passed away very quickly on Dec. 5, 1994. Oliver's story is told in his wonderful autobiography, "The Third Waif". He became a true success in later life. And I can honestly say I still admire and respect him more than anyone else I have ever met.
I am still looking for further information about my family, and would like to hear from anyone who can help me.
I am also researching these other families. I will be happy to give you any information that I may have that will help you, also. Please Email me if I can help you, or if you can help me.
