My Mother's cousin Mary FERGUSSON (b.1892 Logie,Stirlingshire,Scotland) married Frederick Hay ELLIS in New York in 1926.Fred was born in St John's in about 1892. I can't find them in the 1930 census for USA and wondered if they returned to St John's. I would like to know what happened to them and if they had any children.
Please can anyone tell me if I can check the Newfoundland Census online or if not ,where I could find out about this couple.
Thanks for any help

The Ellis Family of St. Johns NFLD has a history going back a few hundred years in NFLD and Devon England. There is a possibility that some of the family tree you are looking for is available in a book which I have, entitled the Ellis Family of Devon and Newfoundland, written by John C. Street. Have you any other information to tell me about Fred that might be useful? eg Mother, father etc? Also here is a link to a very good NFLD site, which you could use to search with his name. http://ngb.chebucto.org/index.html

Hi Lynn
Thanks for your reply.I don't know much about Fred but was hoping to find more about him and his wife Mary Fergusson.I have a copy of their marriage certificate .His parents are Edwin Albert Ellis and Isobel Lucretia Friedlater (?hard to read)The married in New York in 1926 and I have been unable to find them in any census.I have been looking at the chebucto site but haven't found them yet.
Thanks again for your help.

I am hoping you can help.
My husband's family are Ellis' from the 1880's (Caplin's Cove, Hant's Harbour, St. John's). All I know is that two brother's sailed to Newfoundland (possibly from Wales or from England and just sailed from Wales) in the 1800's: John (born abt 1802) and Thomas (born abt 1804).

My husband is related to John Ellis.

ANY help is GREATLY appreciated.
