Surnames: Toplis, Topliss, Toples, Toplas, Toplass, Hunter, Ripton, Repton
Can someone verify for me the following information, please?

I have Lydia Toplis (b. 7/6/1791; d. 10/25/1856) from Brassington, Derbyshire, marrying James Hunter (suspected of being born in Ireland) on May 5, 1826 in Brassington.

We know that after the marriage sometime (unknown date) they moved to Portadown, Armagh, Ireland, where James died sometime before 1842 when Lydia, daughters Anna, Rachel and Lydia, and son Thomas all emigrated to Johnstown, NY, where Lydia Toplis’s sister, Dorothy (married to Benjamin Ripton/Repton of Carsington) was living.

I am trying to do the following:

a) verify the marriage record that I came across … can anyone cite a church marriage record or anything for me?

b) Determine any information regarding James Hunter

c) Determine if Lydia and her children returned to Brassington before emigrating to the United States… we believe that they did, but we have no proof.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Marianne Spencer
