Just starting to do some research on my father's father's line. If anyone can help me get started, it would be appreciated. My grandfather, Rufus Wiley (Wylie?) Horton, was born in Jersey City, NJ in 1881 (we believe 7/15 - we have no birth cert.) He was orphaned around time of birth. His father Ralph (one of 5 brothers from England according to family legend) may have died/taken off - who knows - nothing on him (one story is he may earlier have been a confederate soldier) - His wife, Rufus's mother, was Mignonette (Nettie) Peacock (maiden name?)- died ("was killed" I've heard- maybe an accident, child birth ??) around the time of his birth. He was raised for first 7 years by his maternal grandparents. They were Rufus Wylie Peacock (surgeon for the north in Cival War is the story, yet - grad. medical school in 1875 which is later)and his second wife Anne Martha McCullough (Aunt Hattie), who had come from Tenn. and is said to have been called in a newspaper account "the belle of Memphis." She died in Jersey city 2/5 or 6/1913 - "sent south for burial." Rufus was later raised from age 7-21 by Mary Wetzel, Oxford Depot, NY. I'd really like to get a lead or some direction on tracking down Ralph Horton and Mignonette (Peacock) Horton, Rufus Peacock and Anne Martha (McCullough) Peacock, and their lines. Thanks, Ray
