Dear Forum,
I'm living in just a little hope that somewhere, someone, is an Aussie World War II Buff, and possibly may have a ton of information about an Aussie World War Two Hospital.
>>>What totally shocked me was the fact that so little is currently coming up in Search Engines, about our Aussie Special Hospitals ... period !<<<
How quickly we have forgotten our Silent Hero's who were Both all of the Staff and and all of the Patients alike.
Lest We Forget, but they have !
Our Special Hospitals, I think you will find were for Very Special Sick Service Men and Service Women aka someone suffering from TB, or anything that was Life Threatening that could be carried in the Air, or by Ticks or Fleas, by Blood or Sexual Encounters, just to name a few. I think we will find they were a bit like Special Quarantine Centers.
Just making a calculated guess, they were not favoured by the many Aussie Service Men and Women as a place they wanted to prefer serve in or around, and particulary if you didn't have a High Rank !
I gather putting two and two together, they were "Very Unplesant" place, I think that the "Smell of Death" was lingering around on an hourly basis, about them !
I think you will find, that more Died in them than were ever Saved from Death, or if they survived, Recovery was Long and Very Painful, but that's just guess-o-metrics, on my part, and I'll stand to be corrected !
The Hospital in question was called ....
>>>>>>>"The 126 Australian Special Hospital"<<<<<<<
I don't have much on it at all, but I was able to find out that a group called ...
The 3 Stores Depot RAAF (3SD) or 3SD in 1943 took over the the Management of the RAAF Nursing Staff and Patient Admissions and Discharges from both the 112 Australian General Hospital and 126 Australian Special Hospital. They did this until 1944 when the Brisbane Medical Unit was established.
I also found out that a Wing Commander by the name of L.J.K. Holten became the Commanding Officer of 3SD on 1 November 1944, the very Month My Uncle was finally [Thank God] Honorably Discharged from His Duties with the 126 Australian Special Hospital.
I have sighted a Reference which is made beside the name "126 Australian Special Hospital" of Auth. GRO 125/1943, 5,2.1943. I have no idea what the reference means.
I am aware now that the 126th ASH was involved with some forms of Contagious Diseases, and Unplesant Social and Sexual Diseases, and I thank God My Uncle who became the most Honorable Gentlemant I ever encountered in my entire life. Was Honorably Discharged, alive and well from his Humble Duties while attached to the 126th ASH.
There is note of an Enquiry into the Treatment of Syphilis at the 126 ASH, in December 1944. I suspect that the 126th Australian Hospital was probably based in a Suburb of Brisbane,,, but,,, I'm unaware if the same Hospital could be in several places and still be numbered the same.. aka "The 126th".
There is just so very little on these Special Hospitals available as Factual Details. It still shocks me, our Historians have left us all such a cold Trail, with a sudden dead end to follow and end up running into !
I am also aware that they had special Patches for Persons who were working in or around such Hospitals, there were seperate Patches for each Hospital that Staff had to wear.
Anyone who may have more information, about exactly where the Hospital was, it's Size, Layout, and Grounds or know where there are Photos of the Hospital, I would be glad to hear from you.
Thank You in Advance.
Kind Regards,
john[pop]jr.
