In the 1911 Canadian Census I was able to find my Grandmother Vera Clemenshaw. From there she moved to Ontario and married Wesley Powell, had 2 children Allan and Roberta.
Allan married Debrah Cassel and had 5 children Chris, Trevor, Robert, Michael and Joseph. Chris married Jennifer Foster and had 1 child Emma. Robert married Amy Rollins.

Roberta married Pierre Peron and had 3 children Patrick, Susanne and Chantele.

I am interested in a Clemenshaw family part of which settled in the Moose Jaw area from what I can see. I believe that the family migrated from Maryborough or Minto Township in Wellington County Ontario . The father of the family which I am looking at was born in England but several children were born in Quebec which I have yet to corroborate. The father is William Clemetshaw or Clemenshaw and I have found a William Clemenshaw who was listed in muster rolls of the Fourth Glengarry Regiment of Militia and I am wondering, among other things, if this might be the same person. In particular I am interested to know how the family settled in Wellington County and that how some, or all, emigrated to the Moose Jaw area.

Any information would be helpful as part of my aim is to find the element of truth in a family legend.

Jim.

Thank you very much for this. Some of it I had found but not all. I am still interested in William Clemenshaw and his various movements as I have been unable to establish that he was in Quebec although I have found a William Clemenshaw in Lancaster, ON in 1838-39.

Any information on William Clemenshaw would be appreciated.

Thank you very much. I have had a look at that page and retrieved the information.

That biography concerns George Ellery Clemenshaw who came to Caron in 1898 according to the biography. George's father, John, appears to have moved west sometime after 1901.probably with his sons Alfred David, James Edward and possibly John as well. Prior to coming to Saskatchewan they had been at Elma Twp. in Wellington County.

A particular interest of mine is John's father William who died in Wellington County, Ontario. From what I understand he was born in England and emigrated to Canada. From census information several of his children were born in Quebec before he came to Wellington Township. I have not been able to locate any births in Quebec but I have found a William Clemenshaw in pay lists for the militia in Lancaster, Ontario in 1838-39. Given that Glengarry County abuts the boundary with Quebec it is possible that either he lived in Quebec but joined the Glengarry Militia or given the political boundary changes it was thought he was in Quebec since the United Province of Canada was formed in 1840.

Any information about William's movements would be most helpful to me.

Jim.

I found some pretty good info in http://www.familysearch.org/ on William and John. It shows John in Ont. earlier and in Sask. in 1916. Also found land records in, http://www.saskhomesteads.com/search.asp I also did a "google" search and found an obit for Roy, son of George E. Butch
