I just found out this morning that over 130 of the British Home Children had the surname of LEWIS. And, this list is not complete, so there could have been 150 or more. These orphans were shipped out of England by the thousands, and were shipped to three different continents! The 130 I mention probably all sailed to Canada! If you have Lewis ancestors you can't seem to trace, you might want to find out if they were one of these orphans. The British Home Children were shipped out of there from 1850 to 1930, with little else than the clothes on their backs and perhaps a piece of paper in their hand! (There are several web sites devoted to the plight of the British Home Children, and there are several books about them.)
