Christine L. Payne, 85, of Rockdale died Sept. 29 in the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Funeral services were held Oct. 2 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Jack Chelf officiating. Burial followed at the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Rockdale.

Payne was born Sept. 1, 1922 in Milam County to Louis J. and Jewel B. (Morris) Watson.

She was a retired service representative for Southwestern Bell.

She married William D. "Bill Payne on May 4, 1948 in Thorndale.

She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church In Rockdale. She was past Matron in the order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, William D. "Bill" Payne of Rockdale; sons, Dennis W. Payne and William Dwain Payne both of Rockdale; grandchildren, William David Payne, Kara Denise Payne Wesley Garrett Payne and Laramie Paige Payne.

Pallbearers were Larry Shuffield, David E. Ray, Milton Holmes, Charles Holder, Ernest Hoffmeyer, Fred Debault and Mark Vreeland.

Honorary pallbearers were Earl Whitmore, Don Roddam and Homer Jones.
