Fred Garner appears on this 1870 census with his wife Elizabeth and children including Tecla (Theckla), then 11, my great-grandmother. Elizabeth is listed as a widow in the 1877 St. Louis Directory. I'd like to know what happened to the others in this family and also where Fred came from. I suspect he was from Germany, but I don't know for sure.
