Looking for information on Mary Maynard (abt. 1837-1915), the second wife of Samuel Moore (1814-abt. 1880). Samuel and Mary were married on 29 May 1863 in Lawrence County, KY. (Samuel's first wife was Thursa Hardin; I do not know whether Thursa died or they separated).

Mary Maynard is my great grandmother on my father's side. This has been my brickwall for over a decade now (all three: Mary Maynard, Samuel Moore and Thursa Hardin). There were several Mary Maynards around that time, so I'll attempt to provide info here which will help to identify the one in question.

Mary Maynard and Samuel's children were:

Arminta Moore (1865-)
Abraham Lincoln Moore (1867-1953)
Wilson Grant Moore (1870-)
John D Moore (1873-1939)
Sampson Moore (1875-1946)
Albert Moore (1878-1957)
Sarah Alice Moore (1878-1947)

NOTE 1: Albert and Sarah Alice were twins.
NOTE 2: Samuel Moore and Thursa Hardin had 10 children before he married Mary Maynard.

After Samuel died, Mary continued to live with her children. We find her in the 1900 census living with her youngest son, Albert Moore (age 21), Head of Household and his new bride, Angeline Smith Moore (age 17). Mary, (relationship to head: mother) is the only other occupant in the house with the newly married couple (number of years married: 0)

In 1910, I don't find her in the census. She died on 3 April 1915 in Martin County, KY; her death certificate lists Benjamin Maynard as father, place of father's birth: VA. Mother and mother's place of birth: unknown. This is the only hint I have and I can't seem to locate a viable Benjamin Maynard to be her father. Person notified of death: AL Moore (probably her son, Abraham Lincoln Moore. The undertaker was John Moore--I wonder if this John was her son too! (By the way, cause of her death was listed as senility.)

Other facts: 1880 census lists her estimated year of birth as 1837. 1900 census lists her birth month as Feb and year as 1835. Her death certificate says she was born in 1830.
