Our family history has James Milton Neal b 1825 in Jefferson County, Tennessee, as my Dad's gg-grandfather. Through Y-DNA testing it appears he may actually be a Simpson. I have long wondered if our Neal line isn't related to The Beaver Pond Neal's of Virginia. When looking through some of the material from that book, obtained from the library, I see on page 295 a lot of discussion about orphaned children (John Simpson, George Simpson), guardianship, land sales between the Simpson's and the Neal's. DNA results to date show the earliest match to my Dad is a John Simpson.

If anyone could add anything to this, I'd be most appreciative.
