I am interested in members of the following family -
1841 Census Cornwall - Civil Parish of Gwennap : Cusvey
Jeremiah Midling, age 40, Copper Miner, Born in County
Rosinna Middling, age 35, Born in County
Jethro Midling, age 18, Copper Miner, Born in County
James Midling, age 16, Copper Miner, Born in County
William Midling, age 13, Copper Miner, Born in County
Jeremiah Midling, age 10, Copper Miner, Born in County
Mary Midling, age 8, Born in County
Elizabeth Midling, age 6, Born in County
John Midling, age 4, Born in County
Josiah Midling, age 2, Born in County
There are only a couple of Midling males in The 1851 Census of Cornwall - older men, an agricultural labourer and a bailiff, and a few young boys.
Jethro and William (now Middling) turn up in Victoria in 1857, briefly it seems, and then numerous family members appear in Victorian records from about 1870.
So I'm thinking they may have been recruited prior to the 1851 Census to work in SA mines, multiplied fruitfully there for 20 years or so and then moved to Victoria.
Would appreciate any advice re looking up SA records. I am in country NSW.
Thank you
Barbara
