I am granddaughter of Mary Haman Hobby (Ashburn, GA). My research has stalled at Willis Hammond. I hope to go to NC this year and conduct further paper research. IF the "hearsay" is true, we may find more problems in that - the Lumbee Indians are suspected to have been created by the English "Lost Colony" and Indians in the area... thus creating the line of "mullatoes" we come from. p.s. The first federal census was 1790. There is a John Hammonds listed in Robeson County and I am researching to see if he is connected.
