Hi, I'm looking for the relatives of my grandfather. His name is Mariano Ybanez. He met my grandmother in the Philippines. Apparently he was a soldier. They had a son Roberto Ybanez (my father). I would like to know if someone knows about my grandfather, any help that would be great. Thanks heaps.

Goodday Micah!

Thanks for the reply. My Grandfather met my Grandmother in the Island of Mindanao in a small town of Butuan City, Agusan del Norte . My Father was born in 1930. Apparently, Grandfather left & went to the Visayan Island of Cebu (Daang Bantayan). But He died when my Father is only 7 years old. My Mother said that Father went to Cebu & met His Aunt there. My Father died in 1979. I've just started my Genealogy Site. And I'm hopeful I can find the roots of my Ancestors, Apparently Grandfather had a Spanish blood on him. Hope you can share any info about YBANEZ roots if you don't mind please email me in this address: marissanz2@hotmail.com would be much appreciated. Thanks again.

This is interesting, my Papa Burgos Ybanez was also came from Butuan City. I'm not really sure if my grandfather was spanish, from what I've heard he was a merchant but chinese filipino the Ybanez last name came from my grandmother which they took as there last name. She was spanish. I have no contacts with my Papa's family. According to my Mom there are other siblings with whom I met one Uncle Anselmo Ybanez. They have other brothers Uncle Santiago Ybanez, Tia Melisia and Tia Felisia and Roberto Ybanez who died during World War II as the Japanese killed him. I wouldn't mind getting more information about my fathers family. If you have information please send me an email at sheilady1@yahoo.com my maiden name was Soledad Ibanez(originally Ybanez)the name Soledad was transferred to me from the late Soledad Ybanez. I also have a sister name Gavina Ibanez(orignally Ybanez)her name was inherited from our late grandmother as I was told that she looks like my grandmother.

I think we should all tell our relatives and kids or grand kids that we all descended from severo ybanez and basilisa saladaga since that is where everything started. That way when two ybanez meet and ask taga asa mo nga ybanez we can just respond im a descendant of severo ybanez and basilisa saladaga. then we will know we are related.

eheh well the problem with that is there are ALOT of ybanez in the philippines and they are not all related..in cebu alone i think there are 4 ybanez families around 1850s recorded in churches but none are related..i found that out the hard way i went to old towns and churches and went through records...thats not even including the Ibanez, Ibanes and Ybanes.

I need to inform you that most of the Ybanez and Ibanez whose roots can be traced in Bogo, Cebu are related by blood. During the American occupation they changed the Y to I thus Ibanez became the official surname of many Ybanez but the root is really Ybanez. They are big family of brothers and sisters, If my memory is right, I think all 14. They got separated some went to Mindanao, Bicol particularly Masbate, Visayas and even Northern Luzon either because of family conflicts and marriages. The family in Bogo I was told was one of the richest in Cebu at that time - they are merchants and in businesses including big hacienda. They both got Spanish blood and Chinese Blood. Most Ibanez in Masbate for example are fair skin and of spanish/chinese meztiza types for the women while the men are of the same type. I will ask some more of the names and will tell you the roots of Ibanez clan in Masbate that have direct blood relationships with those from Bogo, Cebu.
