I am trying to help a friend who is decended from a John Smentanka or Smetanka who emigrated from Bohemia sometime between 1900 and 1909 to the US possibly around Galveston TX but not sure of that is where he went or not..... John's birth date is estimated to be between 1850 and 1856.... just based on his wife's birthdate which was 1856...
John apparently left Bohemia to come to America and then was to send for his wife and daughter... he did not send for them so they came later... about 1909.... discovered that he was married to someone else. His granddaughter from the first marriage would like to find out about her ancestry on John's side of the family but has very little to go on.
