The military transport ship San Francisco left NY on its maiden voyage in Dec. 1853 bound for San Francisco, CA with military troops and their families. It sank in the Atlantic during a storm off Cape Hatterras on Jan. 14, 1854 with great loss of lives. Some survivors continued on the
journey on another ship and others croosed the plains by covered wagon. Among these were Jacob Duback/Tubach of Baden, Germany and his wife Dorothea Sauer of Bavaria. I would like to connect with the descendants of any persons that were on this ship. contact:
