My g-g-aunt wrote" -The fist we ever heard of Tirey ancestors was of a cook in the French army in Canada during the French and Indian war in the English colonies. On his off duty hours, he hunted in the woods for game and secretly built a canoe which he kept hidden, and later crossed the river into the New England Colonies. he defected from the French army and joined the English forces. Fleing from the French necessitated changing his name. We are not certain what his name was but we have heard it related that it was Tyrer. I- Eva Eastman Tirey believe Tyrier or Tirriea would be a more likely French name as the last part of French names ending in ier are pronounced like a long A. The name became Tirey and has remained so ever since. " Unquote. I have an earlier message on the board about my g-g-grandfather James Albert Tirey. I think he had a brother Robert, who migrated down into Tennessee. I have the complete James Albert Tirey/Mary Ritchie line down to today. Would like to find out for sure , James' parents and other siblings.
