I located my g-g grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Stone, in the 1860 Meigs Co. census. According to family lore, TJ was teaching college in Tennessee at the outbreak of the Civil War and came home to Carroll Co., VA, to help his parents with the farm. No one in the family knows the name of the college and I haven't been able to locate one in Meigs. TJ was also a Methodist preacher and lost his only son, John Wesley Stone, to scarlet fever on his 4th birthday. I would love to know where little John is buried and whether his tombstone still remains.
