Dan Austin Kimsey, 79 of Parkersburg, West Virginia, passed away at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio June 5, 2014.
The fifth son of the late Everett Lemuel Kimsey and Essie Anderson Kimsey, he was born on September 16, 1934 at South Portsmouth, Kentucky. (Greenup County)
Dan joined the Air Force in October 1951. He was a proud member of the 91st Air Refueling Squadron and a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.
After retiring in 1971 after 20 years of service, Dan had a successful career in the insurance industry.
Upon retiring for the second time, he began a third career as the owner/operator of the Orange Julius in the Grand Central Mall.
Dan was a member of Vienna Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher.
He was a member of the Marshall University Bison Club, Marshall Big Green Club and an avid supporter of Marshall athletics.
On June 20th, 1954, Dan married his high school sweetheart, Freda Farley. They were blessed with three daughters, Debbie (Darrell) Clark, Karen (Chris) Kimsey-Sward and Vicki Lytle.
He has five grandchildren, Danell Moore, Dustin Clark, Kelsey Sward, Carter Sward, and Chance Lytle, as well as eight great grandchildren.
He is also survived by one brother, Robert Kimsey of Georgia, a special nephew Robert W. Kimsey of Georgia along with many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers.
Funeral services will be Monday at 3:00pm at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg WV. Interment will be in the Arlington National Cemetery at Arlington, Virginia with full military rites. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8pm.
