Greetings to all of you descendants of Jonathan & Rebecca Jaquess and friends of the family!

I wanted to give you advance notice of the upcoming 200th Anniversary Celebration of Jonathan & Rebecca Jaquess settlement in Posey County, Indiana. The celebration will be held on the weekend of September 26-27, 2015….which is two hundred years to the day after they arrived at their farmstead near Poseyville.

The main event will be a Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) presentation by the Ohio Valley Chapter, with a gravesite marker and wreath laying ceremony to honor his service as a Minuteman in the American Revolutionary War. The local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will also play a key role in the ceremony which will be held at the gravesite on the old Jaquess farm. The gravesite service will begin at 3:00PM on Sunday, September 27.

The gravesite is located approximately 150 yards from the existing farmhouse, located at 6120 Stewartsville Road, Poseyville, IN 47633. I will provide a map later but you can also google the location if desired.

The original Jaquess farmhouse was demolished many years ago, but the parlor was saved, restored and is in the Historic New Harmony museum which some may want to visit during the weekend.

A semi-centennial anniversary was held on the farm in September, 1865, just after conclusion of the Civil War. A centennial anniversary/reunion was held on the farm in September, 1915. I have attached information from both of those events in case you have not seem them.

Other activities that are planned over the weekend include a tour of Historic New Harmony, lunch on the grounds of the Poseyville United Methodist Church, tour of historic Jaquess locations in Poseyville, visit to Benson and Poseyville Cemeteries where many of our ancestors are buried, church service on Sunday morning at Poseyville United Methodist Church (which has a lot of Jaquess history), and a group photo taken at the gravesite on Sunday for future generations as well as those that may be able to attend the 250th in 2065.

A detailed agenda will be sent after we get things finalized.

I certainly hope you can make it to this event to honor our patriot ancestor. We are in the process of assembling a master contact list, so if you know of anyone that we should include, please forward the information to me. Also, please let me know if you think you can make it to the celebration so that we can start to get an idea of how many people to expect. This will be a time when we can reflect not only on our Patriot ancestor, but on the achievements of his and Rebecca’s many descendants.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and seeing many of you this September in Southern Indiana.

Best regards,

James Fletcher Jaquess
