Abraham Ashforth (1802-1879) was my 3x great grandfather on my father's side of the family.
We know that he was a fettler of Iron (working at the Thorncliffe Iron Works), and did live in Chapeltown (near Ecclesfield, Yorkshire), but there is suggestion from a book (Briar Patch) that my grandfather's sister (Pearl Warner nee Ashforth) wrote that he is from a different area (it is hinted at the Dearne area, although it may just be Sheffield). We have no idea who his parents are, although we THINK he was baptised 15 September 1802 at Cathedral Saint Peter in Sheffield (this record that we found does fit date wise), and it is suggested there that his parents are John Ashforth and Hannah (Heaton?). This John Ashforth MAY be the same one that there are censuses for at Wadsley, but we are unsure, as this means that he would have remarried after Abraham was born, and married an Esther Ryalls. What it seems like at the moment is that John married Hannah and they had Abraham, but then for some reason John married Esther, and had Hannah, Mary Lydia and Joseph Ashforth, and they lived at Wadsley.
Is anyone searching for this part of the family? Does anyone know if the above may be true?
Abraham Ashforth is a marking point in my family tree that I can't seem to get past - I think I know that he married Amelia Watson, Harriett and Elizabeth, and had 7 children (one of which is Elijah Thomas Ashforth - 1851-1922 - who is my 2x great grandfather).
Any help on this part of the tree is greatly appreciated! Thank you.
