What an interesting name TWA what is its origin if anyone knows?
I have a Cathrine Twa in my ancestry she was born about 1845 possibly in Bristle, Quebec. It appears her father was from Quebec and mother from the USA. She married into my Grant family and I have them having 4 children Sabrina, Heram, Ellen & James.
Any info would be greatfully accepted.

Hi Kim,
Twa is a dit name for Touin (Thouin) and the origins are French (Normandy). Most, if not all Twa's can trace back to Roch Touin who arrived in Quebec around 1670 and his wife Denice Colin (a fille du roi). Catherine Twa was the daughter of Oliver Twa/Lydia Moore and was born in Clarendon Twp., Pontiac Co., Quebec, Canada on 10 Sep 1845. I hope this helps! Happy Hunting.

My mother is a Twa, her Great-great grandfather, Joseph-Fabien Touin married Sarah Moore, an English woman. Her family found the Touin name difficult to pronounce, the name was shortened to Twa. Most of the Twa descendants moved out of Quebec, the point of origin, (Roch Touin arrived @1670) to either Michigan, or BC, where my mother's family is now. I have a detailed history if anyone is interested.

I am researching Eunice Ann Twa, also the daughter of Oliver and Lydia (I believe Moore) Twa. Does anyone have information on this family?
Thank you!

hello!
I am not positive about the Moore family, but I think they were Irish or English?? The Twa/Touin family was french Catholic. Oliver and his brother Fabien(Joseph) both worked for the Moore family on thier farm. They married the Moore girls, and anglisized (sp?) their families. They basically became anglo in everything, language and religion.(Anglican) Most of them moved west. My mothers ancestors (Fabien) moved to BC. The name Touin has a number of forms, Thouin, dit Thouin. Originally it was Tone. There is an online book about the Tone family. Just look up Tone family history. Roch Touin is listed in there! They must have changed it again once he settled in "New France" (Quebec)Not everyone was literate in those days. The Touin family line is plastered quite a bit online! You shouldn't have any trouble finding ancestors. Good luck!

Hello Joanne!
Thank you for the information on the Twa family; I discovered that the Twa's were on my husband's maternal side of the family and want to do research for our children. I was able to obtain a great deal of info from the Canadian information at ancestry.com that really surprised us. I'll search for the Tone family on line and see what I can find out.

Hi Joanne I am doing some research on the Twa's also. Their daug. Lydia married a Thomas Robinson and was in the Monteagle / Hastings area. Their daug Julia Lydia was my son in laws gt grandmother. This is for my grand sons. it is interesting they go from Ont to Quebec then to France .Hope to visit the places in Quebec this summer. I guess you and others would be distant cousins to my son in law. So many connections. Sandy
