James Richard Johnson married Ardra Anna Rideout in Calais in 1873. They lived in Dyer at Loon Bay and later at Vanceboro. They had several children:

The children's births were registered well after they were born. The birth record for Allen registered in 1944 indicated that it was "copied from an old family bible."
