While I was killing time at an antique shop this afternoon while my husband was shopping for his other hobby-model trains, I found several documents for different areas of Kentucky. They were in a box of stuff in a booth selling old books. The owner said they belonged to her mother in law who had recently passed away, and that I could have whatever I wanted out of the box of genealogy stuff.
The items I acquired were:
Kentucky Ancestors = Quarterly of the Kentucky Historical Society
Various Booklets as follows:
Winter 1988 Volume 23 No 3
Spring 1988 Volume 23 No 4
Spring 1989 Volume 24 No 4
1994 - 1995 Volume 31 No 1
1993 Volume 28 No 3
Autumn 1990 Volume 26 No 2
A searchable index of surnames contained in these is available at the Kentucky Historical Website as well as other online genealogy web sites. If you have been looking for an item that is supposed to be contained in one of these quarterly's, send me the information you are looking for with which volume and No it is in and I will do my best to send the information to you.
SURNAMES Listed in the 1790 United States Census
This is a booklet which was originally published as A Century of Population Growth by the United States Printing Office in 1909. It lists all the surnames and their variations which were represented by at least 100 white persons in the U.S. in 1790. Listed are approximately 5700 surnames and variations, average size of each family, total number of heads of families, total number of all other members and a breakdown of the number of families per state. It should help you determine what states your ancestors would have been more likely to live in and some possible variations of their surname
If you want me to do a lookup, please send me the names you are interested in and I will send you the information listed for those surnames
Menifee County Marriages Extracted by Barbara Ingram November 1983
This is a copy of an extraction of the R4 Marriage records in Menifee County, Kentucky. It is done chronologically and includes the date 1 July 1869 to 23 May 1912. If you have an ancestor from these county and you know a name and a year they may have married, I will check the book and send you what is listed. Their is no index so a date will have to be know as this book is 41 pages of names and dates. It lists the date of recording, bride and groom's names and in some cases bride's father and or who performed the marriage. That is all that is listed in this extraction but at least it will tell you if something is there and whether you need to get the original document from the county clerk's office.
Menifee County Census 1900 with index Extracted by Barbara Ingram And Irma Sorrell 1982
This is a very thick spiral bound document. A surname and first name if available would be appreciated for lookups. The index only lists heads of households. If I find something I will send you what is listed for a particular family unit.
I thought I would try to give back to the genealogical community for all the help everyone has given me and in turn the next time I need a little long distance assistance someone might do the same for me.
Happy Hunting
