The Arms are those that are officially recorded in Scotland at the Lyon Court (1672-1973). It must be noted that the Arms displayed are the property solely of those named or their descendants. They cannot be used by anyone else, even if they do share the same surname.

It should be noted that the some families were not very good at registering their Arms as required by Scottish law. Therefore, there may be other Arms in use of some antiquity, however, they are not technically legal in Scotland until recorded, or matriculated, with the Court of Lord Lyon.
