My Great Grandfather Michael CARROLL / CARLIN / or CAROLAN was born in County Westmeath ca. 1922. As the story goes - Michael was involved in raising horses (Trotters). Michael immigrated to America and entered the U.S. at the port of New York, NY about 1844-45. Michael was married to Mary FLAHERTY. After Mary's death he married Catherine ORMAN (born in Toomevara, Co. Tipperary, Ireland),whom he met and married in 1852, in Goshen, Orange Co., NY. Michael and Mary had 4 children, whose names were Sarah, Mary Ann, John, and Edward. Michael and and Catherine had 7 children, whose names were Catherine, Margaret. Michael, Ellen, Julia, John, and James.

In 1857 Michael and Catherine emmigrated from NY to Hastings, Minnesota, USA. There has been CARROLL / CARLIN / CAROLAN family in the Hastings and surrounding areas ever since.
