Classification: Query
Surnames: HINES, KETCHUM
Need information about ancestry of this family.

Jalie Tally and Jefferson Hines (my great grandparents, born in TN) were married in Maury County, Tennessee. Marriage license issued January 20, 1877. Marriage license returned and "Rites of Matrimony were Solemnized between the within named parties" the 21st day of January, by Luther James, J.P.

Jeff Hines age 21 and wife Jaley age 19 found on 1880 U. S. census, along with daughter Martha, age 1, in 15th Civil District of Maury County, TN as of 3 Jun 1880. All born in Tennessee and all parents born in Tennessee. Last name wrongly translated on Ancestry.com census pages as Hims.

Jeff Hines was on the 1891 Maury County, Tennessee Voters List, page 46, District 15.

Jeff Hines age 51 and wife Jaley age 49, married 33 years, found on 1910 U. S. census, along with sons Arthur age 20 and Fred age 18, in Washita Township, Custer Co., Oklahoma. All born in Tennessee and all parents born in Tennessee. Last name wrongly translated on Ancestry.com census page as Himes. Also, wife's given name translated as Jalisa.

Jeff and Jalie's children were Martha, Mattie Louise (married WM. BERRY KETCHUM) & Hattie (twins), Charley Clinton, Authur A., Fred Elmo, Etta and Sam.

Jeff Hines: Year: 1930; Census Place: Mt. Carmel Road, Precinct 1, Johnson, Texas; Roll: 2364; Page: ; Enumeration District: 9; Image: 804.0 Parents of Jeff and Jalie born in Tennessee.

Death Certificate in Johnson County, Texas states his birth date as 1-25-1859 as does the funeral home information. His marker states 1-20-1859. Funeral home information also says his father was William and mother was Mollie, both born in Tennessee. Payments for the funeral were from C. C. Hines (Charles Clifton) and Finis Hines (son of Charles Clifton).

Jeff and Jalie are buried in Lane Prairie Cemetery of Johnson Co., TX located north of Cleburne, east of State Hwy. 174 on County Road 704.

Unknown Hines in Lane Prairie Cemetery - A Mrs. Sarah F. Hines d.1922 at age 89 in Cleburne, lived in Cleburne per 1900 census. She was mother of Mary J. Hines Kilpatrick, wife of James I. Kilpatrick. Kilpatrick childen were Lena, James and Robert A. Other children of Mrs. Sarah F. Hines were Sallie Grubbs and Jennie House.

There is also an OLD Lane Prairie Cemetery on CR 903 (Mt Carmel Rd) west of Hwy 174 north of Cleburne that has five Hines' buried there -
HINES, M. D. 01 Sep 1823 15 May 1896
HINES, Sophronia A. 25 Aug 1829 10 Feb 1882 wife of M. D.
HINES, Clement H. 12 Aug 1881 12 Jul 1883 son of A. B. & H.
HINES, John W. 04 Oct 1837 29 Aug 1877*
HINES, Anna 18 Nov 1834 22 Nov 1888 wife of J. W.

*John William Hines, son of Pleasant Hines. Wife was Anna Love.

Since my Jefferson "Jeff" Hines b.1859 was buried in 1935 in Lane Prairie Cemetery and John William Hines b.1835 was buried in 1877 the OLD Lane Prairie Cemetery nearby, this could be the William named as his father on the death certificate. Jeff has been linked as a son of Pleasant Hines by some researchers, but this seems to indicate tht he might have been a grandson. That still leaves the "Molly" named as Jeff's mother on his death certificate. Maybe a first wife of John William, or a nickname?

Any information to help in corroborating this lead about Jefferson Hines will be greatly appreciated.
