Mary Lou, was born on January 6, 1957 in Antlers, OK, in
Pushmataha County Hospital. She and her mother moved to Houma,
LA in 1970. While a senior at Terrebonne High School (class of
1975), she was employed by the Honorable Lilmore Broussard.
There after, Mary Lou worked as legal secretary for attorney A.
Dutch O'Neal. While attending Nicholls State University in 1979,
Mary Lou and her mother opened a court reporting office in the
Ledet Building in downtown Houma. Simultaneously she was
employed by the Honorable Jude T. Fanguy as Official Court
Reporter for the Houma City Court. In 1985, Mary Lou moved back
to Oklahoma to complete her education. She graduated Oklahoma
University in 1986 and received her BA in English and
certification as a paralegal. She was employed by the law firm
of Jones & Blaney in Oklahoma City, until the birth of her
daughter. Thereafter, she was a dedicated wife and mother and
was proud to sell Mary Kay Cosmetics for ten years. Mary Lou was
an active member of Faith Tabernacle and was a member of the
choir. She and her husband led a Sunday school class for many
years. She is survived by her husband, Ricky Newby; daughter,
Elizabeth Newby; and son Patrick Newby all of the home; mother,
Nancy Smith of Houma, LA; two brothers, John Smith of Ba ton
Rouge, LA and Clyde Smith of Houma, LA; sister Jimi S. Corzo of
Houma, LA; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jess & Mary Alice
Burks of Yukon, OK; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tim &
Lisa Newby, Greg & Lynda Brown and Krysti Witt; 8 nieces and 11
nephews. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her father, Glenn
Akard; grandparents, Clyde and Ella Deupree and grandparents,
Herb and Mae Akard. Mary Lou touched many lives with her faith
and lived her life as a witness and testimony for the Lord
Jesus. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the MD
Anderson Sarcoma Center. A heavenly celebration will be held at
Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God on Friday, February 2, 2001, at
1:00 PM with interment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. "May
