Hi Everyone:
I'm looking for the maiden name of my husband's ggmother's mother. The ggmother is SELINA GALE daughter of William GALE & Elizabeth ?. We know that Selina was born at Pumbley Cove in 1864. Don't know the date of birth but Selina had a twin sister, Sophia and they were received into the church on April 24th, 1864.
Also, looking for info. on the marriage of William GALE & Elizabeth; as well as Alexander HEWITT & Selina GALE.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks and Happy Easter! Linda Osmond

I am a decendant of William Robert Gale and Elizabeth Lawton Gale. Both born in England about 1830's. They came to Canada prior to 1853. My great grandfather, William Robert Gale, Jr was born in Canada in 1853. We do not know if he had brothers and sisters, but I was told that twins ran in the Gale family. Per my records, William (and parents, i assume) immigrated to the US in 1866, via ship we believe because William said that he was a cabin boy at age 13. Unless he ran away from home, we have a mystery as to why William Jr had chains tatooed around both wrists. William Jr. surfaced in California in the 1870's, but I do not have record of his parents. That is about all I have on William and Elizabeth. Elizabeth Lawton was born or lived in East London per her son.

Hello I am related to the Gale's in the White Bay. My Grandmothers name was Elizabeth Gale M. to Daniel Hynes. Do you have any information on the Gale's? My personal email is velmawhitt@canada.comVelma

I have a correction. Elizabeth Lawton was married to JOHN Gale, not William. William Robert Gale was their son.

Hi there, I have been searching the Gale family now for 11 months now and I have a selina gill in my line B: Aug 1861 Pombley Cove D: Jun 25, 1944 married Alexander Hewitt B: May 1854 Barr'd IsLand son of Hezekiah and Elizabeth Hewitt.
Unsure if this is the same Selina but it sounds like a pretty good match.
I think the spelling of Gill is the same surname as Gale.

I do not think these are the Gale's of White Bay, Newfoundland. They had no connections to the US as I can ascertain.
As Linda has discovered by now, Selina and Sophia Gale's parents were William Gale of John and Jane, and Elizabeth Blanchard of William and Elizabeth from Bay of Islands. John was from Bridport, England and married Jane Pickett of Vere (Fair) Island. William Blanchard was from Woodlands, England and Elizabeth Blanchard was Mi'kmaq. I believe she was Elizabeth Joe, dtr of Thomas.

Hi,
Selina Gale was my Great-Grandmother... her correct date of birth is August 1861. All the information I have uncovered so far has been for this date of birth. I have a photo of her grave stone as well as my G-Grandfather Alexander which shows her age at time of death which confirms that 1861 was correct for her date of birth. We are currently searching for information on Selina's ancestory as well. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Derrick Hewitt

I also have a copy of the Census from 1921 which confims the month and date of Birth for Selina Gale that was married to Alexander Hewitt. It shows she was born August 1861... not 1864.... the Selina Gale you note for April 24th, 1864 may be the date of being accepted into the church or it may be related to another Selina Gale.
