Classification: Query
Surnames: HUMPHRY, PARKER, TYLER, IGOE, PINCKNEY, ALLEN
New to researching Aiken & Aiken Co.

I'm looking at the following family group listed below & not having much luck with a couple of the individuals. I've been searching the databases at Ancestry & Family Search. I don't see much of help on the GenWeb site for the county. I did find some entries at Find A Grave for some of these people & I have found the transcripts of the family entries from the Bible of Maggie Pauline (TYLER) HUMPHRY on line.

I've been wondering if there are other, less widely known non-subscription sites for Aiken Co or SC on the whole that might be of some help. I'm not located anywhere even remotely close to SC so for me everything is on-line. I also have a next to 0 budget thanks to the Recession & job loss. Can anyone make some suggestions where to look?

These are the people/family group:

Charles HUMPHRY b. abt. 1809 Manhattan, NY County, NY d. bet. 1878 - 1880 Aiken, Aiken Co, SC & his wife, Martha Ann PARKER b. 19 Sep 1841 Northfield, Staten Island, Richmond Co, NY d. 19 Jan 1893 Montmorenci, Aiken Co.

Their children were:

1. John Henry b. abt 1860 Manhattan, NY - either never made the move south or returned to NYC before the 1880 census, married - lived all his adult life & died in Manhattan so he'll not be worried about in this post.

2. Charles Augustus b. 1864 Manhattan d. 1941 Atlanta, GA; married 1894 in Aiken, Aiken to Maggie Pauline TYLER. All their children b. Aiken Co, 2 for sure in Montmorenci: Charles F. 1895 Montmorenci d. 1946 San Bruno, San Mateo Co, CA; James Igoe b. 1897 Windsor, Aiken d. 1907 hunting accident near Montmorenci; Margaret Louise b. 1899 Montmorenci d. 1990 Fulton Co, GA; & George b. 1904 Aiken Co d. bef. 1910 SC probably Aiken Co. I'd like to find burials for all & a DOD for son George otherwise I've a fairly good handle on this couple thanks to Maggie's bible entries.

3. Caroline Florence b. 1866 Manhattan d. 1942 Charleston, Charleston Co, SC. Married 1885 in Charleston, Charleston. Her husband James J. IGOE was a prominent citizen of Charleston & I've seen the "The History of South Carolina" Vol 3 by Yates Snowden entry for him at his Find A Grave memorial. Their children all b. SC presumably the city of Charleston since that seems to be the only place they'd lived: James J. Jr b. / d. 1889 @ 8 mos; Martha Teresa b. 1890 d. 1953 Mount Pleasant, Charleston Co; Rose Mary b. 1891 d. 1973 SC; Caroline Magdalene b. 1893 SC d. ?; Maude Cecelia b. 1896 d. 1935 Charleston, Charleston; Gertrude Pauline b. 1897 d. ?; Blanche G. b. Jan 1900 d. ?; Charles Joseph b. 1901 d. 1903 Summerville, Dorchester Co, SC; Helena b. abt. 1904 d. ?; Mary Humphry b. abt. 1909 d. ?; George Humphry b. unknown d. ? - He may still be alive as he's listed as Private in 2 Ancestry trees. I'm still searching for James' father who, ironically d. in NYC as a Union prisoner & is supposedly buried in a Brooklyn, NY Catholic cemetery. And for those people for whom I don't have DOD's, I'd be looking for that info as well as burials, spouses & children. Otherwise, I also have a good handle on this couple thanks to James' prominence.

4. Martha D. b. 1869, last of the NY births & last seen on the 1880 census Aiken, Aiken Co. Middle name may have been "Decker."

------------------Early 1873 the family arrives in Aiken, Aiken Co, SC----------------

5. George Justus b. Apr 1873 Aiken - the first in the family to be born in SC d. aft. Apr 1940 Lyon Park, Arlington Co, VA; married Nov 1903 to Elizabeth Perry PINCKNEY. All their children were b. SC but I don't know if that was in Aiken, Aiken or elsewhere - abt. 1905 Gertrude M, abt. 1908 Elizabeth P, abt. 1914 George, abt. 1914 Julia Caroline - Caroline Julia & abt. 1919 Margaret S.

Bessie P.A. b. 1876 Aiken, Aiken - I've only seen her on the 1880 census & haven't been able to find out anything else.

Thomas J.A. b. 1879 Aiken, Aiken Co - same as with his sister Bessie - I've only seen him on the 1880 census & then can't find him.

After Charles HUMPHRY died & before Jun 1880, widowed Martha married George Robert ALLEN b. abt. 1832 CT and had 1 child by him: Beatrice L. b. 27 Jan 1877* Aiken, Aiken Co d. 18 May 1951 Charleston, Charleston Co. She married abt. 1895 in SC to Thomas F. IGOE, Jr. b. abt. 1862 Charleston, Charleston Co d. 28 Sep 1920 Summerville, Charleston Co. He was the brother of half sister Caroline's husband James J. IGOE.
* DOB for Beatrice - this came from her DC which names Martha Ann Parker as her mother. 1 of 2 possibilities exists - the informant supplying her DOB didn't know her correct date & Martha Parker is her mother...I lean towards this only because Beatrice doesn't appear on the 1880 census with George & Martha OR the 1877 DOB is correct & Beatrice is the child of George & an unknown 1st wife & doesn't appear w/George & Martha on the 1880 census because she's somewhere else perhaps w/relatives & has yet to join the household and the informant didn't know that Martha wasn't her mother. I'd like to solve this dilemma but I'm not sure a marriage document would do it as a later 1912 marriage from Columbia, Richland Co that I got last year didn't ask for or contain the parents of the bridal couple.

One other individual that came to Aiken with Martha & Charles was her father Jonas Parker (b. 30 Oct 1813 Hubbardston, Worcester Co, MA) who is shown on the 1880 census in the household with Martha, her HUMPHRY children & 2nd husband George ALLEN. The book, "Parker In America" written in 1910 speculates that by that point, 1910, Jonas was deceased. I'd like to find a DOD & burial for him.

Among the things I'm interested in finding are: DOD's/burial locations for Jonas Parker, Charles Humphry & George Allen; marriage partners/dates & children for Martha D, Bessie & Thomas; confirming that Martha nee Parker is the mother of Beatrice L. Allen & if so, finding the correct DOB for Beatrice.

So, can anyone suggest non subscription sites that someone not used to researching in Aiken Co. might not be aware of that could possibly help with finding some of the information I seek for these individuals?

Thanks!
