Classification: Query
Surnames: Corns
Joseph Corns, b. Tredegar, South Wales 1821, emigrated with parents to US in 1830. Landed at Baltimore, then to Pennsylvania. Father was an ironworker, as was Joseph. He may have had brothers Charles, James and John. In late 1830s they are in Pittsburgh. Joseph moved to Buffalo, NY in 1846 to establish the first rolling mill there -- Corns & Co. "an association of Pittsburg operatives." He sells Buffalo Iron and Nail Works to Pratt & Co. in 1860-61 and continues to work for them as foreman. The works burned down in 1865, his wife died in 1867 and in 1869 he left Buffalo to manage another ironworks in Akron, OH. I want to know more about Corns family in Wales. I read that it was "an old family" in Merthyr Tydfil, not far from Tredegar.
