Priscey COLEY appears on the 1850 Jackson Co. FL Census as a 12-year old living with her mother, Mary Unknown Hurst Coley, and her older Hurst half-siblings: William, Hiram, Mary, Frances, and Isabella. In 1856 Priscey/Piercey marries Thomas GWALTNEY/GUALTNEY in Jackson Co. FL. Thomas and Priscey GWALTNEY are shown on the 1860 Census for Jackson Co. FL; he is 33 and states that he was born in NC; she is 22, born GA; they have 2 children - Joseph C. 3 years old, and Lilly, 10 mos. old. After that, they disappear. Does anyone have in their database a THOMAS GWALTNEY in this time frame in this part of the world? Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

In the years since I posted this, I have learned a little more about Priscey and Thomas. Priscey's mother IS a Hurst, and the Hurst children she is living with are her first cousins - children of her mother's brother William Hurst. Priscey and Thomas eventually moved to Bay Co. FL and had 8 confirmed children. Thomas Gwaltney was born in NC, and his parents were Horatio Shadrack Gwaltney and Barbara Pearce. There is a section of Panama City called "Gwaltney Estate", no doubt some connection. Thomas and Priscey's daughter Lillia Gwaltney married Lambert Milbank Ware Sr. and they had 3 sons; Lambert was a State Representative at one point, and a director of the Bank of St. Andrews.

I am hoping a descendant of Thomas Gwaltney and Priscey Coley reads this and can help fill me in on Priscey's mother, Mary Hurst Coley. I have been unable to locate who Priscey's father was.

Hi Cousin.

I am just running out the door to go to work but when I get home tonight I can send you some specifics. Alfred B. Coley b in 1802 and Mary Blitsch born in 1803. I just recently started working on this side of my family.
