Hi, I'm hoping somebody can help me with trying to trace Henry Drew, my husband's grandfather. We know that he was married on 24th October 1917 at St Josephs, Stockport to Frances Mary Cleary - his age on the certificate is 31. We know that he died on 11th August 1930 at Manor Hill Hospital, Birkenhead - his age is stated as 41, so at least one of these 2 ages are wrong. He died after many years of ill health after suffering shell shock in WW1. Unfortunately, we have been unable to trace his army record, his still born son was buried on 17th October 1918, so he would have had little opportunity to return to war - Was he discharged on medical grounds before his marriage - does a list of these discharges exist separately from the individual records? If one of the ages is correct, then I calculate that he was born between 25/10/1885 and 24/10/1886 or between 12/8/1888 and 11/8/1889. We believe, that he may have come from London, but it is only recollections of discussions. We have a photograph of him which has printed in the corner "Moure Denmark Hill Removed From B1" then next bit is unreadable. He had been employed at some stage at "houldsworth mills, reddish as this is on his obituary. His father's name was also Henry Drew and he was deceased at the time of his son's marriage in 1917 and he was a general labourer.
My problem is that by not knowing which is his correct age, I have a few options of Henry Drew on the census's. I have managed to eliminate 1 but it is proving tricky to know which one could be him. I have tried to get hospital records from Wirral Archives in the hope that they would have birth details, but they have been unable to find the records for Manor Hill and I have had no response from the person they suggested I contact. I have got to the stage where I am thinking I may have to wait for the 1921 census, but 10 years is a long wait !!
